Program's different steps

Cyberthèses's origins

Project's philosophy:

The project initiator's main ambition was to contribute to the diffusion of elaborated tools software allowing every kind of academic institution who wants to take part in the building of a digital library based upon a distributed model, open and free.

The principles which determined our technical choices are:

  • Respect of the standard set by the international community.
  • Using of open sources softwares.
  • Pooling the research, achieved programs and documentation between the Cyberthèses
partners, building up a toolbox open to all.

Background:

The Cyberthèse program is in keeping with a worlwide approach which name is Open Access. This method rely on:

  • The NDLTD (Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations) works which bring together precursors institutions in terms of thesis archiving and digital diffusion.
  • The Budapest's initiative for Open Access. The main idea is to support search results circulation in ordain and respect those norms which guarantee durability and accessibilty of your works.

Cyberthèses accomplishments:

Production line of the document to a diffusion platform

A bit of technical history.

Training workshops:

In order to make easier the project diffusing, the persons in charge of Cyberthèses put in place a knowledge transfer training workshops program and training trainers. The seeking goal aimed at:

  • Generalise the conception, realisation and diffusion on the networks of the tool sets required to carry out a digital thesis production system and diffusion and the necessary documentation to this realisation.
  • Generalise the conception, preparation and realisation of a training program to the digital structured document publishing by using knowledge transfer training workshops locally outsourced.
  • De facto reached the building up a diffusing french speaking network of the scientific literature which constitute a good reproducible example and acceptable for the other linguistic and cultural areas.

Tutorial:

It's the result of a cooperation between the University of Geneva and Lyon, and had the support of the French speaking Institute of the new communication technologies. It's a practical tool, not only for the authors by sensitive them to the digital publishing savant issues and giving them the tools to improve their word processing skills, but also for departments and administrative structures which will be more and more called upon diffusing and promote the scientifique productuion by advising them models and carrying out of digital project diffusion's tools.

It was released as a CD-rom reproducing the online version. This media allowed to break free from a permanent connexion and relating costs. This version is actually out of print. The tutorial can be reached on the University Lyon 2 website and on the cyber documents website of Geneva University (be careful : French only on both sites).

Actual results:

Cyberthèses worldwide network architecture is maintained through the implementation of the OAI-PMH standard .
